FAQ

Q: What do you do as a group?

A: As a group we have various social gatherings where we do LEGO themed activities such as: Parts and minifig swapmeets, parts drafts where we get either several copies of a set and take turns choosing parts from it or get a single copy of a very large LEGO set and take turns choosing parts from it, “Dirty Brickster” games which are essentially a LEGO themed Yankee Swap, and most importantly, we put on awesome LEGO shows for the public where we display all our great creations!

Q: What is a “LUG”?

A: LUG stands for LEGO User Group. A group where Adults Fans of LEGO (AFOLs) and Teenage Fans of LEGO (TFOLs) get together for LEGO-related fun, both small social gatherings and awesome LEGO shows where we display what we’ve built!

Q: I’d like to join the group, how do I do that? Is there a cost for joining?

A: We like to actually meet people first, but reaching out to us on the Forums (Not very active), through the website here (Better) or through our Facebook page/discussion group (Best, everyone’s always logged in to Facebook nowadays!) is a good start. There is no cost for membership in the LUG. For TFOLs, we like to have involvement from their parent(s)/guardian(s) as well for duty-of-care reasons.

Q: A good number of you seem to have massive displays and I only have a small collection, is it still worth me joining?

A: Absolutely! Smaller items are always welcome, they just mean you can set up before the show and pack up afterwards quicker than the rest of us. Everyone has to start somewhere. Additionally, smaller builds are sometimes more relatable to children who don’t yet have thousands of LEGO Bricks.

Q: I’ve never been to a “LEGO show” before, what should I expect?

A: There are lots of excited adults and children that come by throughout the day asking lots of questions. The actual display typically has a fair bit of setup time depending on the size and complexity. At some events there’s also playbrick for the kids, possibly kid’s building contests and LEGO for sale as well. If the show is part of a larger event, there can be just about anything else going on.

Q: I have an event I’d be interested in having the LUG present at, how do I go about doing that?

A: The easiest way would be to reach out to us through our Contact page.

Q: What’s the history of this group?

A: We originally started off as NovaLUG back in 2002 as a mostly LEGO train focused group and our members almost all lived in Nova Scotia. In 2017 we made the decision to change our name since we had a large number of members who do not live in Nova Scotia and events not in Nova Scotia. We still have a large focus on LEGO trains, but have definitely branched out into other themes as well!
